Lebanon on the brink: Wisma Putra calls for 'immediate voluntary departures'

KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Ministry has urged all Malaysians in Lebanon to make 'immediate voluntary arrangements' to leave the country due to the deteriorating security situation.

The advisory follows recent Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, which have resulted in over 500 fatalities, and more than 1,600 injuries.

The attacks have also displaced thousands, prompting Malaysia to condemn them as violations of international, humanitarian, and human rights laws.

In a statement, the ministry said that Malaysians should also postpone any travel to Lebanon until the situation stabilises.

"The international community must not condone such aggression, as it undermines Lebanon's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

"These unilateral military actions not only escalate regional tensions but also pose significant risks to neighbouring countries, and the broader global community," it said.

Malaysia condemns the Israeli regime for extending its military operations into Lebanon while continuing its offensive in Gaza, calling it a "blatant disregard for human life and international norms".

"Malaysia calls on the United Nations Security Council to take immediate and decisive action to halt the disproportionate attacks occurring in both Palestine and Lebanon, with the paramount goal of unequivocally protecting civilians.

"The international community must act swiftly and cohesively. We urge the UNSC to exercise its charter-mandated responsibility to end the cycle of violence.

"Diplomatic engagement and a commitment to dialogue are essential for fostering lasting peace and stability in the region."

It added that Malaysians in Lebanon could seek consular assistance from the Malaysian Embassy in Beirut.
