Wisma Putra: No Malaysians affected in Lebanon blasts

KUALA LUMPUR: Wisma Putra has confirmed that no Malaysians were affected by the recent explosions in Lebanon.

"There have been no reports of Malaysians involved in the incident. The Embassy of Malaysia in Beirut is closely monitoring developments and is actively liaising with the local authorities," it said in a statement today.

However, it said, Malaysia was gravely concerned over the use of communication devices as explosives in the Sept 17 incidents in Lebanon, which claimed at least 21 lives and left over 3,300 injured.

"Malaysia strongly condemns these cyber-related attacks in the strongest terms as they undermine Lebanon's security, stability and sovereignty.

"Malaysia stands in solidarity with Lebanon in this crisis and will work with the international community to defuse and de-escalate the already tense situation."

Wisma Putra, on behalf of Malaysia, also extended condolences to the victims and their families, as well as to the government and people of Lebanon.

"We pray for the speedy recovery of those injured in the explosions.

"We also urge all Malaysians in Lebanon to keep abreast of the latest developments, take due precautions, and adhere to travel advisories from local authorities.

"If you have not registered or updated your whereabouts and details, please do so immediately via ekonsular.kln.gov.my."
