LANGKAWI: Several roads on the island will close from 3pm today until 2pm Sunday for the first stage of the 28th edition of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2024.
Langkawi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shariman Shari said that Jalan Padang Matsirat will close starting at 3pm, from the Pokok Asam traffic light to the Dundung traffic light.
"Road closures and detours will occur in stages today to prepare the venue in Kuah for a smooth race in stage one of LTdL 2024.
"Road users may use alternative routes from the Sungai Menghulu traffic light, Jalan Padang Gaong, Lebuhraya Langkawi, Jalan Ayer Hangat, and Kuah town/jetty," he said.
Shariman added that road closures and detours will continue in stages from 7.30am to 11.30am tomorrow for the Domestique Ride event.
"Closed roads will include Jalan Padang Matsirat, Lencongan Putra 1, Penarak, Ayer Hangat, Pantai Kok, Kuala Teriang, Nyiur Chabang, and Ulu Melaka.
"Additionally, Jalan Makam Mahsuri, Mata Air, Padang Matsirat, Lapangan Terbang, Kuala Muda, Teluk Baru, Temonyong, and Bukit Malut will also be closed during the event," he said.
He said that the road closures and detours will occur in stages during the LTdL 2024 race, which covers 96.5km this Sunday.
"We ask road users to cooperate fully and comply with instructions from the authorities to ensure the event runs smoothly," he said.
LTdL 2024 will span a total of 1,190km, beginning with the first stage in Langkawi, followed by Stage 2 (Arau-Butterworth), Stage 3 (Taiping-Cameron Highland), Stage 4 (Kuala Kubu Baru-Bentong), Stage 5 (Kuala Lumpur-Melaka), Stage 6 (Batu Pahat-Kulai), Stage 7 (Miri-Bintulu), and concluding with Stage 8 (Bintulu).
