PADANG TERAP: A search operation is underway within a 200m radius of where a mother and son were last seen being swept away by strong currents in Kampung Tanjung Kiri earlier today.
Padang Terap district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mulkiaman Manzar said search-and-rescue (SAR) efforts for the victims, Salmah Mohd Zain, 46, and her son, Muhammad Rosman Rohadi, 19, are ongoing.
"The operation involves 10 rescue boats from the police, Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force (CDF)," he told reporters at the scene today.
He added that the search team consists of 20 police personnel, 30 firemen, and five CDF personnel.
"The water level has receded, but the search is being slowed by fast-flowing waters and difficult terrain, which includes rubber plantations, oil palm fields and fruit trees."
He explained that the incident occurred near a river following heavy rainfall last night, with water levels rising from 5am today.
Meanwhile, a temporary flood relief centre (PPS) has been set up in Kampung Tanjung Kiri.
"A total of 38 victims from 13 families have been relocated to the PPS as of 12pm today."
