KOTA TINGGI: The body of a soldier who fell into Linggiu dam in Bandar Tenggara after the boat he was on collided with a drifting log has been recovered.
District police chief superintendent Yusof Othman in a statement said the 32-year-old victim was reported to be on the armed forces boat with three others, who were also on duty.
The collision caused them to fall off the boat.
"The three managed to save themselves, while the victim did not.
"They tried to look for the victim but could not find him, and informed the supervisor on-duty about the incident," he said, adding that Kota Tinggi Police received a report regarding the drowning incident at 2.35am.
A team from the Bandar Tenggara police station, along with personnel from the Kota Tinggi and Bandar Tenggara Fire and Rescue stations and a diving unit, were dispatched for the search and rescue operation.
"The victim was successfully recovered by the diving unit at 11.50am, at a depth of 13 metres and approximately seven metres from the incident site.
"The remains were taken to the Forensic Unit of Kota Tinggi Hospital for investigative procedures."
The case has been classified as sudden death.
