Fighting over trivial matters, differences will hold us back, says PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says the government is determined to fulfil the country's potential amid growing interest from investors.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said that in his speech at the Sarawak state banquet in Miri last night, he spoke on the importance of speeding up the implementation of key projects and initiatives.

He cited the example of the Pan Borneo Highway project which is progressing well in Sarawak but faced in Sabah due to issues with contractors and excessive political interference.

However, Anwar said, Malaysia's efforts to become more competitive, agile and dynamic while being more open is attractive to investors including those from the United States, Europe, Japan, Korea, China and Russia.

"So, we must think and decide if we want to remain slow and backward by quarrelling over trivial matters and the colour of our skin or build on the momentum we have created."

"This government is determined to right past wrongs, end corruption and abuse, improve governance, formulate clear policies and harness our strengths to uplift the status of the country and its people to the highest level."

Yesterday, Anwar, at the Madani Rakyat 2024 Sarawakku Sayang programme, said the political stability in the country should not be taken for granted and instead serve as an opportunity to implement good policies.

He said the harmony in Sarawak, home to many different races, is an example to other states in their development efforts.
