Firm stand on Palestine at UN reflects govt's position

PUTRAJAYA: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan's statement at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York reflects Malaysia's firmness and consistency on various global issues, including justice for Palestine.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said such a statement was crucial as it leverages the opportunity to express Malaysia's views and position on the international stage regarding various issues that require attention.

"Tok Mat's statement represents the entirety of the government's stance. Yes, this is our (Malaysia's) position.

"We know international issues are very dynamic, but what's most important is our firmness and consistency in utilising forums at the UN (United Nations), as conveyed by Tok Mat," Saifuddin said during a press conference after attending the Home Ministry's monthly assembly.

At the UNGA, Malaysia voiced strong positions on the veto power, Islamophobia and Palestine. Malaysia also made a firm appeal for the full implementation of Resolution ES-10/24, urging the UN Security Council to take decisive action to halt Israel's illegal settlement activities in Palestine for the sake of justice for its people.
