Family of doctor found dead claims she was mistreated

KUALA LUMPUR: The family of a doctor found dead in her Lahad Datu home in Sabah has claimed she was mistreated.

The woman's mother Lim Siang Heyeo, 64, and brother, Tay Yong Shen, 31, claimed the deceased was also forced to work long hours.

At a press conference led by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong, Lim and Tay said they believed the specialist doctor's mistreatment contributed to her decision to end her life.

"It is unimaginable how much unreasonable work my sister was assigned to, as she worked from morning until night without any rest," Tay said.

Tay said his sister was transferred to the Lahad Datu Hospital in February and initially her work was manageable.

However, he said her superior suddenly increased her workload at the end of July, forcing her to work over 14 hours straight each day without any breaks.

Previously, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad called for a thorough investigation into the doctor's death.

Dzulkefly said he did not tolerate any form of workplace bullying and that all staff at the ministry deserve a safe and just working environment.
