Female crocodile shot dead in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: A female crocodile was shot dead in a joint operation to combat the presence of crocodiles in Kampung Sabah Baru here last Thursday.

The 2.5-metre-long reptile was found near a stilt house in the village.

Lahad Datu Wildlife Department officer, Silverter Saimin, said the joint operation involved the police and the Civil Defence Force.

He said the operation covered several areas, including Kampung Dasar Baru, Kg Desa Bajau, Kg Sabah Baru, Kg Tabanak, and Kg Terusan.

"A crocodile was detected by a stilt house in Kampung Sabah Baru.

"One shot was fired by the department, successfully killing the crocodile," he said in a media statement yesterday.

According to him, the female crocodile that was shot dead measured 2.5 metres in length.

"The carcass of the crocodile was taken to the Lahad Datu staff quarters for further action."
