Minister reminds infaq institutions to be responsible in managing funds

PUTRAJAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar has reminded all agencies and charitable institutions to be honest and responsible in managing infaq funds from the public.

He said the donated funds need to be managed with good governance, as failure in doing so would lead to mistrust by the public.

"If the trust is not fulfilled, people will lose confidence in these religious agencies and also in any NGOs that collect donations from the public.

"We must never betray the trust given by the donors," he told reporters after officiating the 2024 Malaysia Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM) Regional Forum closing ceremony here.

Na'im added that all agencies involved with infaq under his ministry must be good examples to NGOs involved in the activity.

Earlier, he said the empowerment of infaq institutions in the country needs to be continuously carried out through strategic planning, organised efforts and integrity in management.

He said if such an action was taken, confidence can be instilled in all parties to collaborate in the community development programs.

"Efficient governance will not only create competitive charitable organisations but also enable them to gain and maintain the community's trust to continue contributing and to make these institutions the preferred infaq institutions," he said.
