Repent! Religious minister tells TikTok users using religion to insult PM

IPOH: Those who badmouth and pray for untoward incidents to befall Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his ministers must repent, said the religious affairs minister today.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said: "This is not the teaching of our religion.

"Despite differing political views, we should not use social media platforms to encourage prayers for leaders, especially the prime minister, to be cursed and afflicted by Allah.

"Islam and Prophet Muhammad emphasise high morals and teach people to love each other.

"Even when there are differences in opinions, particularly with those of the same religion, they should be addressed with respect."

He said this after attending the Madani Ulama and Umara Tour at Casuarina Hotel @ Meru here.

Present were Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) president Tan Sri Mohd Annuar Zaini and Perak Islamic Religious Affairs Department director Harith Fadzilah Abdul Halim.

He was commenting on a Tiktok video displaying writings calling for Allah to curse Anwar and his cabinet ministers and supporters, using Qunut Nazilah as background music.

Na'im said people shouldn't use social media to humiliate others, as this was not taught in Islam.

"Even though the prime minister does not mind criticism, let any criticism be constructive and conducted with manners.

"So those who uploaded the TikTok video must return to Allah and repent.

"The same goes for those supporting the prayer. They need to reflect on themselves and build this country based on love and unity."

He said he would ask the Malaysian Islamic Development Department to lodge a report about the video with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

"Let MCMC evaluate the video and decide."
