Education Ministry launches programme for rescued GISB children

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry has rolled out an educational programme for children rescued from Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB)-linked charity homes, who are now under government protection.

The ministry, in a statement, said the programme began on Oct 1, in partnership with the Social Welfare Department.

The ministry said the educational programme is specifically designed to provide formal and structured educational access to the children involved, preventing them from falling behind in their studies.

A total of 68 teachers under the ministry are directly involved in the programme.

It said, to meet the educational needs of children who have never attended the national education system, the programme will utilise the Year 1 Transition Programme Kit (Kit Program Transisi Tahun 1) and the Healthy Mind Intervention Programme Module (Modul Program Intervensi Minda Sihat).

The kit emphasises the socio-economic, cognitive, and physical aspects of the children to build their self-confidence, and it serves as a holistic preparation that includes literacy and numeracy mastery.

The modules used will also incorporate elements that can enhance self-awareness and foster the balance of these children in physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and intellectual aspects, to prepare them to adapt positively to the learning environment and equip them for new learning experiences.

The ministry said it is committed to ensuring that the children involved receive the best educational opportunities, leaving no one behind.

On Sept 11, police raided 20 charity homes operated by GISB in Selangor and Negri Sembilan, rescuing 402 children. The raid followed allegations of child neglect, sexual abuse and molestation.
