Orang Asli in Kampung Jedip await confirmation on new settlement

GUA MUSANG: The Orang Asli community in Kampung Jedip has claimed that the state government approved approximately 400 hectares of land for their new settlement.

Kampung Jedip village head (tok batin) Nasir Busu stated that the approval was granted by the state government through the Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa) in 2012.

However, the community has yet to receive updates on the status of the land.

"After the state government approved the land, Jakoa informed us that it was ready for us to move into. They even provided us with a map of the area. The Orang Asli in Kampung Jedip were excited to hear this news, as we have been living in the village for a long time," he said.

Nasir noted that nearly 200 Orang Asli reside in the village, with most depending on the forest for their livelihoods.

"Our current village is not safe, especially during the rainy season. We hope the state government will listen to our plight and provide us with answers soon," he added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan stated he would investigate the matter before making a statement.

"I will consult the Gua Musang Land and District office before responding to this issue," he said.
