GUA MUSANG: Election Commission (EC) workers today (Friday) have sent ballot boxes for the Nenggiri by-election to two remote Orang Asli settlements near here.
The EC workers were seen carrying the boxes to a waiting helicopter outside the Dewan Perdana complex here about noon.
The ballot boxes, as well as other equipment that would be used in tomorrow's (Saturday) polling day, were being sent to Pos Simpor and Pos Gob.
Returning officer Nik Raisnan Daud said two helicopters would be used to send and collect ballot boxes to these settlements, which could not be accessed by regular vehicles.
He added that the distance between the two settlements from Dewan Perdana complex here, which was the vote-tallying centre, was 100km and 116.4km, respectively.
There are 999 registered voters in the two settlements, and it would take three to four hours to go to the polling centres of the two settlements in four-wheel-drive vehicles.
It is learnt that the electoral roll used for the Nenggiri by-election contained 20,245 registered voters.
They will be voting in 20 regular polling centres with 46 voting streams.
The Nenggiri by-election was called after Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah declared the seat vacant.
The seat was previously held by Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, who is also the Gua Musang member of parliament. He was among the seven elected representatives dismissed from Bersatu for supporting the unity government.
In the Kelantan election held in August last year, Azizi won the Nenggiri seat with a narrow majority of 810 votes in a straight fight against a BN candidate.
