KUALA LUMPUR: A Singapore-based Malaysian property tycoon will be charged in the republic's courts tomorrow in connection with the corruption case involving an ex-minister there.
Datuk Ong Beng Seng, who is also Formula 1 Singapore GP head, is expected to charged with abetting a public servant to obtain valuables and another for obstructing justice.
Channel News Asia reported that the 80-year-old billionaire is currently out on S$800,000 bail.
Ong made headlines in recent months in Singapore because of his links to former transport minister S. Iswaran.
Iswaran had only today been sentenced to 12 months in prison for obstructing justice and receiving more than US$300,000 worth of gifts.
Ong had been named in Iswaran's initial graft charges for corruptly obtaining tickets to the 2022 Singapore Formula 1 GP, as well as flights and a hotel stay in Doha.
The tickets were allegedly given to Iswaran by Ong.
Iswaran pleaded guilty on Sept 24 to four charges involving more than S$400,000 in items like flight, football and musical tickets, whisky and wines, as well as one count of obstructing justice by repaying Ong for the Doha-Singapore flight, said the CNA report.
