KUALA LUMPUR: Newly-appointed Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation CEO Anuar Fariz Fadzil says he is unrelated to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
This comes after former Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil published a Facebook post on Anuar's appointment, questioning if he was related to Fahmi.
"Fahmi, I want to ask, is this not your brother? If it is then congratulations, two siblings with big positions in the government. Brother (is a) minister, sibling (is a) CEO. Reformasi."
Anuar, who was named MDEC chief executive yesterday, however, denied the claim.
"We are not related," he said in a text to the New Straits Times.
At the time of writing, Isham had edited his post with a note saying that Anuar was not Fahmi's sibling.
"Only their father's names are the same, perhaps just friends," he said.
Prior to his MDEC appointment, Anuar served as Malaysia TikTok head of public policy.
He also served as a special officer to former International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed between 2013 and 2017.
