Langkawi SkyCab operator denies link to technician's fatal fall at adjacent SkyWalk

LANGKAWI: Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd (PLSB), the operator of Langkawi SkyCab, has clarified that the fatal incident involving a maintenance worker yesterday was not linked to the Gunung Machinchang cable car service provider.

In a statement, PLSB said the fateful incident involved an employee of Langkawi Eagle's Nest SkyWalk, adjacent to Langkawi SkyCab.

"PLSB, as the operator of Langkawi SkyCab, wishes to stress that the victim is not a worker or a contractor with Langkawi cable car.

"Therefore, media reports on a worker falling from the cable car were inaccurate.

"Langkawi SkyCab is operating as usual, and there was no scheduled maintenance work carried out at the time of the incident," it said in a statement.

PLSB said each maintenance work at Langkawi SkyCab complies with the standard operating procedure.

In the incident yesterday, a technician with Langkawi Eagle Nest Skywalk was killed after plunging 40 meters onto the slopes of Gunung Machinchang.

Langkawi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari was reported as saying that the technician, Khairul Nizam Jaafar, 41, fell from a metal barrier beneath the skywalk's glass deck while carrying out maintenance work.
