LANGKAWI: The widow of a Langkawi SkyWalk technician, who died after falling from a metal safety barrier onto the slopes of Gunung Machinchang here last week, will receive a pension from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).
Langkawi Perkeso officer Nor Hanani Abdul Hamid said the pension would be paid to Khairul Nizam Jaafar's widow, Zunirah Othman, 39, and their three children soon.
Nor Hanani said checks showed that Khairul's family was entitled to Perkeso benefits based on the deceased's service with Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd before joining Langkawi Skywalk.
"This benefit shows that Perkeso does not just provide protection for contributors, but also makes sure that their families are supported after their (contributors) death," she said after presenting RM3,000 in funeral expenses assistance to Zunirah at her home in Kampung Padang Kandang here today.
Present was Langkawi Skywalk Sdn Bhd (Langkawi Skywalk) director Abd Samad Ahmad. The company is the operator of Eagle's Nest Skywalk Langkawi tourist attraction.
In last Thursday's incident, Khairul, 41, died after falling 40 metres onto the slopes of Gunung Machinchang.
The victim was working on the metal safety barrier of the glass deck when the incident occurred.
Khairul is survived by a wife and three children, Muhammad Alif Iskandar Khairul Nizam, 17, Nur Irdina, 16, and Adam Farhan, 9.
Meanwhile, Zunirah expressed her gratitude for the benefit from Perkeso.
"Our family has come to terms with the incident and accept it as Allah's will," she said.
