KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is set to expand its skilled labour sector and enhance all areas of trade and agricultural technology with Pakistan, following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's visit to the country.
Anwar said that the visit to the South Asian nation was personally very meaningful and included fruitful meetings with his counterpart, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali, and industry figures.
"This yielded results covering various bilateral issues for mutual benefit. Undoubtedly, there will be enhanced cooperation in all areas of trade and agricultural technology, including matters related to meat, rice, and the import of palm oil by Pakistan.
"Additionally, both nations will expand collaboration in the skilled labour sector through critical fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology, and semiconductors," he said.
Anwar said that this demonstrates the commitment of the highest leadership to strengthen ties in various sectors, including the economy, especially given the great potential for trade relations that can be developed.
"May the Malaysia-Pakistan relations continue to thrive in the future, Insyaallah," he said.
Anwar concluded his three-day visit to Pakistan today.
Earlier, it was reported that Malaysia has secured RM2.65 billion of potential exports and RM100 million of potential investment from meetings with Pakistani companies in conjunction with Anwar's inaugural visit there.
The Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry said potential exports and investment will be implemented within the next three years, involving sectors such as palm oil, timber, fertiliser, petrochemical oleochemical, food manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.
