Sabah prosperity a joint responsibility between state and federal govt, says Rafizi

PUTATAN: PKR respects the views of those who believe that only local political parties should contest in the 17th Sabah State Election, says Rafizi Ramli.

The PKR deputy president said, however, many Sabahans are aware that bringing prosperity to the state is a shared responsibility between the state and the federal government.

"I believe we should respect each other's views, like those who think that only local parties should contest here.

"While I respect that view, I believe many Sabahans recognise that bringing prosperity here is a joint responsibility between the federal and state governments.

"The best approach is to have mutual understanding and respect for the fact that it's a shared responsibility, which should move in tandem... that's my view and the view of PKR.

"The same applies to the different views of other parties. I'm sure they have their own reasons. That's why my advice to PKR Sabah is to respect each other's opinions," he said to reporters after the Kemas16 and Pop25 Sabah Convention held at Pan Borneo Hotel here today.

Commenting further, Rafizi said his party's main priority is to ensure that the people of Sabah are not neglected due to political sentiments played by any party.

"We cannot let the people be left stranded while politicians play with various sentiments. We should help and enhance our services - that's our focus.

"In the end, we have to leave it to the people's wisdom to choose (the ruling party during state election). Whatever the people's decision, the federal and Sabah governments must share the responsibilities.

"The responsibilities of the state and federal governments must be carried out well. The best scenario for the people of Sabah is a coalition, so they are not left stranded while all the parties have their differing opinions," he said.

Commenting on the cooperation between parties in the 17th state election, he said discussions will continue within the framework of the unity government.

"All parties in Sabah, though they may have slightly differing views, are part of the unity government at the federal level, including Parti Warisan Umno, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, and others.

"So, the negotiation process will take place as directed and monitored by the federal leadership," he said.
