Motorcyclist booked for number plate that's smaller than a 5 sen coin

KANGAR: Police have booked motorcyclists in the district for various traffic offences during an operation in Kuala Perlis yesterday, including one using registration plates smaller than a 5 sen coin.

Kangar police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said police seized 350 motorcycles for various offences during the static operation which was carried out from 6pm yesterday until early this morning.

"We have inspected 441 motorcyclists and their pillion riders throughout the operation that was held from Kurong Tengar to Kuala Perlis coastline.

"We have seized a total of 350 motorcycles for various offences, amongst others for not having a registration plate, using a registration plate number smaller than a 5 cent coin, illegal exhaust modification, and using a false registration plate," he told reporters at the scene.

Yusharifuddin said the routine weekend static operation was carried out to instil awareness amongst motorcyclists of the importance of abiding by traffic regulations.

"We have discovered a case involving a 13-year-old teenager riding a motorcycle without a licence, besides not having a side mirror.

"Action will be taken against the parents under Section 39(5) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
