CYBERJAYA: Bidding for the special vehicle registration numbers featuring the "EV" prefix officially begins today and will run until Sept 13.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the "EV" special registration numbers were exclusively for zero emission vehicles (ZEV) and cannot be registered for non-ZEV vehicles.
ZEV owners who are not interested can still use any regular state serial number for their vehicle registration.
"As previously implemented, a portion of the revenue from the special registration numbers will be allocated to public initiatives, such as free helmet exchange programmes and B2 licence training for the B40 group," he said in his speech when launching the JPJePlate, here, today.
The bidding will be held for five days online on the JPJeBid System starting today and ending on Sept 13 at 10pm.
The bidding initiative was implemented to help the Transport Ministry fund several initiatives such as the distribution of helmets to motorcyclists and Social Security Organisation contributions for taxi drivers.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, currently holds the record for the highest amount paid for a registration number plate, bidding RM1.75 million for "FFF1".
It was the third time he had done so, previously holding the record of RM1.5 million which he paid for the special plate "GOLD1" and RM1.2 million before that for the number "FF1".
