GEORGE TOWN: Water supply has been normalised for about 85 per cent of consumers in Seberang Prai following the recent 48-hour water supply interruption.
Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) said, as at 10am today, water supply services had been restored to an estimated 100,300 of the 118,000 consumers in Seberang Prai Tengah (SPT) and Seberang Prai Selatan (SPS).
Consumers have been facing water supply interruption since Friday to facilitate the commissioning of a new 180-metre-long section of a pipeline measuring 1.2 metre in diameter, near the Politeknik Permatang Pauh campus.
They were supposed to receive water supply at 10pm on Saturday.
However, a burst pipe during the connection and commissioning of the new pipeline further delayed water supply.
PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk K. Pathmanathan said the two repaired sections of a major 1.2m pipeline treated water pipeline at Jalan Pengkalan Tambang and Politeknik Permatang Pauh were fully functional.
"PBAPP has re-commenced optimal treated water production and treated water pumping works at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP).
"PBAPP personnel are expediting pipeline de-airing works at various locations in SPT and SPS to fully normalise water supply for consumers in higher
ground and end-of-line (EoL) neighbourhoods," he said in a statement released at 11.30am today.
Pathmanathan, however, said consumers in the following neighbourhoods had complained that they did not have water supply:
• Perkampungan Juru
• Taman Seruling Emas
• Sungai Duri Indah
• Taman Widuri
• Taman Kesumba
• Jalan Sungai Duri
• Persiaran Jawi Golf Resort
• Tasek Junjong
"Accordingly, PBAPP personnel have been deployed to address specific issues in each neighbourhood.
"We seek the kind patience and understanding of all affected consumers," he added.
PBAPP will continue to post recovery status updates on its Facebook page.
