KOTA KINABALU: A man was arrested for selling large quantities of subsidised cooking oil on social media.
According to the Sabah Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), he used a house in Taman Hings, Jalan Kobusak, as a storage facility.
He was arrested during Ops Tiris, which was carried out around 7 PM by Sabah KPDN, following a tip-off from the public.
Sabah KPDN director Georgie Abas said that investigations revealed that subsidised cooking oil storage and sales activities were being conducted at the site.
Disguising themselves as buyers, officers were directed to the address through WhatsApp and launched the raid during a sale transaction, discovering multiple one-kilogram packets of subsidised cooking oil.
They also found coarse sugar stored in the porch and kitchen area of the house.
"The raid uncovered an estimated 8,177 kilograms of various brands of cooking oil and 48kg of coarse sugar, all seized for further investigation," Georgie said, adding that the total value of the seizure was RM20,579.30.
A 27-year-old local man was detained to assist in the investigation under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961 for illegally possessing controlled goods.
