Imam killed in accident while returning from visiting wife, newborn in hospital

MANJUNG: The Imam of As-Siddiq Mosque in Seri Iskandar, Nurul Kamal Zulkarnain, 37, died after the sports utility vehicle (SUV) he was driving skidded at KM211.8 on the West Coast Expressway (WCE), near Sitiawan, yesterday.

The deceased was also a Takmir teacher with the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) in Seri Iskandar.

It is understood that his wife had just given birth at the Seri Manjung Hospital yesterday.

The accident occurred after the victim had visited his wife at the hospital and was on his way back to Seri Iskandar to pick up another child from school.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said firemen from Sitiawan were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving an emergency call at 4.35pm.

"The accident involved a Perodua Kembara that skidded into an oil palm plantation area beside the WCE.

"There was a male victim trapped in the driver's seat and was confirmed dead at the scene by medical officers.

"The firemen used special equipment to extricate the trapped victim, and the body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action," he said in a statement.

The rescue operation, which involved eight firefighters, concluded at 5.37pm.
