[UPDATED] Fahmi: Zahid's call for no apology shows top-level unity

KUALA LUMPUR: Fahmi Fadzil says Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's statement that Pakatan Harapan need not apologise for past attacks on Umno shows unity at the highest levels of government.

Fahmi, PH's information chief, said he fully supports Zahid's stance, adding that this unity benefits the country.

"Yes, I fully accept it (what Zahid said yesterday), this is the spirit of unity I'm following closely. It shows a shared purpose and objective at the top levels," he said after launching the World Postal Day celebrations.

He added that political stability is paying off, citing the strengthening ringgit, rising investments, and growing trade.

"It (political stability) has borne fruit. The ringgit is strengthening compared to last year, investments are increasing, trade is rising, and Malaysia is achieving one success after another."

"What Zahid said yesterday is easily understood by all parties. We want to do what is best for our country, and with the current stability and unity among the government parties, we believe Malaysia will be highly respected on the world stage," he said.

Zahid, the deputy prime minister, yesterday reminded Umno leaders to avoid stirring issues or engaging in public disputes with leaders from other unity government parties.

The reminder came on the heels of a statement made by the party's Supreme Council member Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who was quoted as urging PH to issue a public apology to Umno for decades of attacks against the party.
