Cops nab couple high on drugs, suspected of impersonating police

SUNGAI PETANI: A couple detained while high on drugs after crashing their car into a roadside stall in Sungai Layar while evading police arrest, landed themselves in even deeper trouble.

This is after the arresting policemen found a vest with a police emblem in a Honda hybrid car the suspects were travelling in.

Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said in the 1.10am incident, a police team on three patrol cars spotted a suspicious car in Jalan Sungai Layar.

"One of the patrol cars tailed the vehicle and ordered the driver to pull over, but the driver had instead sped off and upon reaching Taman Kenari intersection, the suspect's vehicle tried to ram the pursuing patrol car.

"However, the suspect lost control of the vehicle and hit the road divider before crashing into a roadside stall," he said in a statement.

Azharuddin said the police team subsequently arrested a man and a woman, aged 30 and 32 respectively, in the car.

He said the team also seized a vest with a police emblem and a cutter in the vehicle, suspected of being used by the suspects to impersonate policemen.

"Both of them were tested positive for methamphetamine.

"Checks showed that the man, who works as a labourer, has 12 previous criminal and two drug abuse records while the woman, a factory worker, has three drug abuse records," he said.

Azharuddin said the couple is being investigated for impersonating policemen, obstructing civil servants from discharging their duties and drug abuse.
