Bukit Kiara arrest: Suspect held for possession of drugs, fake guns, investigation underway

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed receiving a report regarding the arrest of a man in Bukit Kiara.

City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa in a statement said the man was arrested after police discovered two imitation pistols and a compressed block suspected to be cannabis inside the suspect's vehicle.

"As such, this case is being investigated under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 for possession and importation of imitation arms and Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

"A remand application has been granted for six days, from Sept 7 till tomorrow (Sept 12)," he said.

Rusdi urged the public to provide information on any unlawful activities to the police.

"Any information on criminal activities can be forwarded to the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999 or any nearby police station."

Earlier, it was reported that a former research assistant to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was arrested last Friday after police allegedly found two pistols and 305g of ganja in the car he was travelling in.

Muhammed Yusoff Rawther was detained around 9.30am on Sept 6 in Kuala Lumpur and is currently under police remand, his lawyer, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali said.

Rafique said the case, initially investigated under the Arms Act 1960, is now being pursued under the Dangerous Drugs Act after the remand application under the former was rejected.

He said Yusoff has denied any connection to the pistols and drugs, claiming that the items were planted to frame him by individuals with personal vendettas.
