Bitter pill: Doc loses RM3.46mil in investment scam

SHAH ALAM: Police have received a report from a male doctor, 45, who claimed to have lost RM3.46 million to an investment scam.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the state Commercial Crime Investigation Department received the report involving the Online Dimensional Investment stock investment scam, in Serdang.

"The victim in this case claims to have lost RM3,465,000.

"Following this report, we have opened investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating," he said today.

He said initial investigations revealed the suspect used a qualified foreign institutional investor (QFII) account called "L-Trader Max" and called for victims to sign a contract with a company called "Dimensional" to convince victims that it was registered and operated in Singapore.

"Our checks revealed the contract signed was fake.

"Further investigations are ongoing," he said, adding that people should be cautious when looking to invest via online schemes.

Hussein urged the public to conduct checks with the relevant authorities before deciding to invest.

Those with enquiries should contact the nearest police station or the National Scam Response Centre at 997.
