House blaze leaves woman and grandchild burnt

RANAU: An elderly woman and her granddaughter sustained burns when a fire broke out in their house at Kampung Kantas Baru here.

The victims, aged 60 and 1, suffered burns to their legs.

District Fire and Rescue Station chief assistant fire Superintendent Ridwan Mohd Taib said it received a call about the incident at 1217pm.

Following this, four firemen and a fire engine were despatched to the scene, which is located about 70km from the fire station.

Ridwan said the fire destroyed the house and damaged a Perodua Kembara and two motorcycles.

"Both victims suffered five per cent burns on their legs and were taken to the hospital by the public before the arrival of the fire team," he said.

He said the fire was brought under control about 3pm, and the operation ended an hour later.

"The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation," he added.
