Doctor loses over RM100k to fake part-time job syndicate

MUAR: A doctor has lost over RM100,000 after falling victim to a syndicate offering a non-existent part-time job.

The 27-year-old victim is said to have been entangled with the syndicate after getting acquainted with an individual through an app, who then offered him a part-time job.

Muar District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, said the victim later contacted the individual to get more information about the job offer.

The individual informed the victim that the offered job involved conducting energy efficiency surveys.

"The victim was promised a 20 per cent return if he completed the survey via the provided link.

"Drawn in by the commission offer and trusting the part-time job, the victim then registered as an agent through the website.

"To get the surveys offered, the victim made 14 transactions into five different accounts, totalling RM113,086. A screenshot from the website that the victim downloaded showed a profit of RM130,000," he said in a statement.

Raiz Mukhliz stated that the victim was then asked to make an additional payment if he wanted to withdraw the profits, but he refused to do so as he began to feel he was being deceived.

"The victim then filed a report at the Muar District police headquarters (IPD) last night for further action.

"Initial investigations revealed that the victim used his savings to participate in the offer. The police are still conducting investigations, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code," he said.
