RTM to settle outstanding payment for part-timers this month

KUALA LUMPUR: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) will settle all outstanding payments for all of its part-time workers this month.

This comes after a report, quoting sources, that RTM has not paid 700 of its part time workers since June.

In a statement, RTM said it was currently in the final stages of finalising a special approval for the payment rates of part-time workers with the Finance Ministry.

"Previously, RTM had submitted a request to MOF following the cancellation of all prior approvals by the MOF in a letter dated June 24, which affected the procurement rates for non-civil servant services.

"With the approval from the MOF, the authority to pay for piecemeal services will be more regulated and will not violate government procurement procedures.

"Outstanding payments for all piecemeal workers will be settled within this month," it said.

The report earlier today claimed the workers have reportedly been informed that RTM was waiting for funds from the government to make the payments.

Sources had said the director-general of broadcasting and the heads of departments were aware of the situation but claimed that they were waiting for funds from MOF.
