KUALA LUMPUR: A 65-year-old woman from Penang made the most out of a sad situation, betting on the numbers she calculated from her uncle's funeral.
That decision turned out to be a masterstroke as it earned her a share of the RM23.9 million Toto 4D Jackpot on Oct 1 and 12, split between three people.
The woman and another winner from Johor, who bought a System Play and a standard ticket respectively, earned the lion's share of the jackpot, splitting a whopping RM11,035,121.25 between them.
Another winner from Melaka walked away with RM1,839,186.85 in an i-System ticket.
The Penangite said she got the pair of winning numbers - 5088 and 2323 - when she attended her uncle's funeral several months ago.
She believed her win was a "farewell gift" from him.
"I was the only person who still bet on the numbers persistently even after my late uncle's funeral which was held a few months ago. It must have been a farewell gift from my beloved uncle.
"I bought a System 7 ticket because I combined all the numbers I got from columbarium, hearse and paper house for the deceased," she said.
Her System 7 ticket also won her RM1,680 as a System Play bonus.
She said she has no plans yet for her newfound wealth but plans to deposit the winnings into a fixed deposit for now.
In total, four winners from Penang, Johor, Melaka and Selangor won a total of RM28.6 million from the Toto 4D Jackpot 1 and Power Toto 6/55 over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the winner from Johor, a 66-year-old retiree, bet on - 1777 and 2323 - derived from his house number and his favourite number.
"I bet regularly and would spend RM50 per draw to bet on my favourite numbers.
"I have decided to give my children RM1 million each to share my joy. I will be enjoying life with my wife with the rest of the winnings," he said.
The 49-year-old winner from Selangor, meanwhile, won the RM4,688,691.00 Power Toto 6/55 Jackpot by betting on a Lucky Pick ticket with the set of winning numbers – 4, 5, 13, 18, 26 and 35.
