KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has frozen millions of ringgit worth of assets as part of its investigation into the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) graft scandal.
However, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said no new arrests have been made so far.
"One individual has since been rearrested and remanded for seven days for investigations.
"Investigators are still detecting stocks believed to have been received through bribes kept in various companies," he told reporters on Friday.
He explained that they needed time to conduct their investigations especially as they were looking into 20 projects.
"I can confirm that we have frozen assets. I don't have the exact figure on me but it is estimated to be millions of ringgit worth," he said.
Yesterday Azam said the ongoing investigation into the MBI graft scandal is based on evidence and not politically-motivated.
He was quoted saying the issue, which involved sand-mining concessions, had also implicated a politician who supposedly wielded influence in Selangor.
MACC had previously raided a condominium, allegedly used by the politician as a 'safe house' to store illicit funds used for bribes and political purposes.
The commission had seized SG$1.5 million from the house.
