KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has welcomed the allocation in the 2025 Budget for additional assets and maintenance to enhance the safety of the country's waters, particularly in the South China Sea.
MMEA director-general Maritime Rear Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said the allocation demonstrated the Home Ministry's ongoing commitment to addressing the agency's urgent needs.
"The procurement of additional assets is timely as our agency faces capacity constraints in maintaining security within the Malaysian Maritime Zone, especially in border areas," he said in a statement today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during the tabling of the 2025 Budget, announced plans for the maintenance and procurement of additional littoral assets.
He said this comprised six vessels under Phase 2 of the Ship Life Extension Programme, one multi-purpose mission ship and two next-generation patrol vessels.
