KUALA LUMPUR: The allocation for the Customs Department announced during the tabling of the 2025 Budget will help the department combat smuggling and plug public fund leakages.
Customs director-general Datuk Anis Rizana Mohd Zainudin said the department would make full use of the allocation to ensure that every resource was used optimally and effectively.
"This includes strengthening the control and security at the country's entrances.
"In addition, the allocation also encourages our personnel to double our efforts to increase revenue collection while also dealing with leakages," she said.
During the tabling of the 2025 Budget, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the Customs Department and Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry had been allocated RM60 million to combat public fund leakages
He said both organisations managed to bust smuggling syndicates with seizures worth nearly RM2 billion.
