Federal Territories Fatwa Committee to decide on GISB doctrine this Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Fatwa Committee will decide on the status of the doctrine by Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB) at its meeting this Thursday.

Federal Territories Mufti Associate Prof Datuk Dr Luqman Abdullah said the meeting would be held specifically to discuss the matter.

"We will hold a fatwa meeting on Oct 24 specifically to discuss the issue of GISB whether it will be gazetted as deviant or otherwise," he told reporters after attending the launching of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council's Laptop Aid Scheme at the Federal Territories Mosque today.

When asked about deviant teachings in the Federal Territories, Luqman said more than 20 groups have been detected and a "fatwa" (edict) has been issued.

On the statement by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar that differences of opinion among Muslims should be managed courteously, Luqman said there are authorities and "fatwa" that the community has to comply with to avoid conflict.

"We all have our views, but at the end of the day we have to comply with the decision issued by the fatwa institution," he said.

So far, Melaka, Perlis, Selangor, Sabah and Penang have declared the beliefs and teachings of GISB as deviant.
