KEMAMAN: "When I told my family I wanted to marry her, some close to me suggested I look for someone else, but I ignored them because I find her adorable."
This is what Muhammad Syamir Sukarno, 21, shared about his love for Nur Suriati Abu Bakar, 27, emphasising that he values genuine connections over appearances.
Their playful relationship captured public attention after a video of Nur Suriati lifting Muhammad Syamir for a photo on their wedding day went viral.
Reflecting on their story, Muhammad Syamir mentioned that they met in January through a mutual friend.
Their compatibility led them to tie the knot on Aug 25, with the blessing of their families.
"I've always been attracted to plus-sized women. My wife embodies the qualities I desire, and from the start, she captured my heart.
"My family didn't mind my choice and fully supported me, so there were no obstacles," he said to Harian Metro.
Muhammad Syamir, who works as a restaurant assistant, said he embraced all of his wife's qualities, both strengths and weaknesses.
"My wife feels the same; she accepts me as I am, and I've never asked her to lose weight.
"The most important thing isn't appearance, but how she fulfils her duties as a wife," he added.
Meanwhile, Nur Suriati shared that her husband had mentioned his preference for plus-sized women early in their relationship.
At first, she was sceptical, thinking he was just trying to impress her.
"I even asked if he wanted me to lose weight.
"He said no, and as we got to know each other better, I realised he was sincere. He accepted me, no matter what I chose to eat," she said.
"Honestly, I never expected to get married. I even told my mother I didn't want to marry because I was aware of my situation. But I'm grateful there's a man who accepts me just as I am.
"From the beginning of our marriage until now, he has remained the same. I was drawn to him because he is caring and knows how to make me happy.
"I pray our marriage lasts happily ever after, as I only want to marry once," she said.
