RM789 million allocated for school toilet maintenance, minor repairs [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of RM654.29 million and RM134.33 million were allocated last year and this year respectively for toilet maintenance and minor repair projects under the Education Ministry.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said last year's allocation involved 8,354 schools and educational institutions.

"It covered 8,306 government schools and 48 educational institutions (including matriculation colleges, Institut Aminuddin Baki and Teachers Education Institute).

"However, the implementation of toilet maintenance for 310 schools in Sarawak was postponed due to time constraints, locality issues and a shortage of construction workers.

"This year, the ministry allocated RM31 million for the upgrading and minor maintenance work of the toilets that were not completed last year.

"We will ensure that funding is distributed equitably among all schools under the ministry, whether they are government or government-aided schools," he said in response to Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Ind-Tanjong Karang).

Zulkafperi had asked about the current data for school toilet maintenance projects in educational institutions under the purview of the ministry.
