Langkawi cable car worker falls during maintenance, rescue underway

LANGKAWI: A search-and-rescue operation has been launched to locate a cable car maintenance worker who reportedly fell while conducting repairs on the Langkawi Skybridge Cable Car at Jalan Telaga Tujuh here today.

The worker, Khairul Nizam Jaffar, 41, was believed to have fallen into the forest area of Gunung Mat Chincang from the second-level platform during the maintenance.

State Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Mohd Zamri Bin Abd Ghani said search-and-rescue efforts began immediately following a distress call at 1.15pm.

"The victim is thought to have fallen from the second-level platform, a drop of about 40 to 50 metres," he said in a statement today.

He said rescue teams were still uncertain of the victim's condition as they worked their way into the forest to reach him.
