KUALA LUMPUR: A court order is required to release children from Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) centres from the government's care.
Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the government will return rescued children to their guardians.
She said the police have classified a case involving a rescued child as "No Further Action", a court order would be sought to reunite the child with their guardian.
"Before we return a child, we must receive a court order to do as the child," she told reporters on the sidelines of the National Conference on Ageing 2024.
She said out of the 560 children rescued from GISB centres, 55 have been returned to their guardians.
Earlier this month, Nancy said an initial cognitive assessment of 385 children belonging to GISB members of GISB revealed that 30 children had severe cognitive disorders.
Then, she said the ministry's goal was to return the children to their families.
GISB is at the centre of a police probe involving alleged exploitation, abuse and forced labour.
Since September, police have rescued over 500 children aged between 1 and 17 who were believed to have been exploited and abused.
GISB has since denied the allegations.
