Rely on official weather reports, not social media

KUANTAN: The public is urged to rely solely on weather forecasts and warnings issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and to disregard misleading reports shared on social media by unauthorised "experts".

Pahang Civil Defence Force director Che Adam A. Rahman cautioned these self-proclaimed weather analysts against sharing their own interpretations or analyses, which could incite panic or fear among the public.

"Over the past two days, an individual has been posting weather forecasts and interpretations regarding potential weather patterns in several areas via social media. We are unsure of this person's identity or location.

"I advise this individual to cease sharing their so-called weather analyses, as it only creates confusion. We do not want social media users to panic or for those living in rural areas to mistakenly believe such information is credible," he said.

Che Adam said that only MetMalaysia was authorised to provide accurate and timely updates, encouraging the public to access first-hand information on their official website.

He also reminded social media users not to repost outdated photos and videos of floods, landslides, or other disasters that could disrupt public order.

For the latest weather updates, the public can visit MetMalaysia's website at http://www.met.gov.my or download the MyCuaca app from Google Play and the App Store for free.
