KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living will conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged abuse of fleet cards under the Subsidised Diesel Control System before taking any action.
Its deputy minister, Fuziah Salleh, said such action could include revoking an individual's fleet card.
She said stricter enforcement would be conducted by the ministry's agencies to prevent similar cases from happening in the future.
"Enforcement is to be tightened... this includes undercover operations by ministry enforcement officers," she told the New Straits Times.
It was reported that the first fleet card misuse case was that of a lorry driver detained after being caught misusing the card by purchasing 80l of subsidised diesel for smuggling into Thailand in Kampung Tualang, Tumpat.
The 58-year-old man was arrested about 8am when members of the General Operations Force Ninth Battalion carried out Op Taring Wawasan in Kelantan.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the Isuzu lorry was stopped after the driver was found to have been behaving suspiciously.
He said an inspection of the lorry revealed it was carrying 80l of diesel worth RM236 in a modified tank.
Three fleet cards and purchase receipts used by the driver were also seized.
