Video footage of child abuse: Police confirm old case, suspect already sentenced

TASEK GELUGOR: Police have clarified that a viral six-second video showing a child being abused is linked to an old incident.

The video resurfaced earlier today after being shared by a Facebook user named Alex Ching and reported by a Chinese media outlet.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abdul Rahman confirmed that the footage was related to a case previously investigated by authorities.

He said that on Feb 27 last year, police received a report regarding the abuse of a three-year-old child, which occurred on Feb 16 at the victim's home in Kampung Selamat, Tasek Gelugor.

"The suspect, who is the biological father, was arrested and prosecuted under Section 31(1)(A) of the Child Act 2001 for negligence. The suspect was sentenced in Butterworth Court on April 4 last year to a fine of RM12,000, with six months' jail in default, and on July 25, he was also placed under a good behaviour bond with RM5,000 bail for two years of supervision," he said.

Anuar urged the public not to sensationalise the news, as it could lead to unnecessary unrest, given that the suspect had already been sentenced by the court.
