Saifuddin: New road project to strengthen Malaysia-Thailand border security

ALOR STAR: The construction of a new road linking the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security Complex (ICQS) to Thailand's Sadao Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) aims to enhance national security and strengthen Malaysia-Thailand relations.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that the road would streamline traffic, improve security, and facilitate the movement of commercial, heavy, and public vehicles at the border.

"This project includes building a dual-carriageway with six lanes spanning 900 metres, along with a 300-metre service road connecting the main road to the General Operations Force (PGA) Tactical Headquarters at Bukit Kayu Hitam," he said in a statement on Facebook following a site visit.

The project also involves demolishing and reconstructing 10 blocks of buildings at the 5th Border Regiment Camp and developing a new final control post and covered gateway, symbolising unity between the two countries.

Saifuddin said the ministry was committed to ensure border security while enhancing infrastructure for security forces.

"This development will prioritise the welfare of security personnel and strengthen Malaysia-Thailand relations, facilitating economic and social movement at the border."

He reiterated the ministry's dedication to maintaining high standards of border security in line with the Malaysia Madani aspirations, which stressed on humanitarian values, compassion, and well-being for all.
