KUANTAN: Despite the unpredictable weather, the people of Kuantan gathered in large numbers to witness and celebrate the second royal wedding of the Pahang royal family today.
Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri'ayatuddin Shah, the son of the Sultan of Pahang, wed Tengku Natasya Puteri Tengku Adnan at the Balai Mahkota in Istana Abdulaziz.
A heavy downpour this evening did not deter the enthusiastic crowd, with many arriving early at the Kuantan City Council Square, some even securing their spots an hour in advance.
Families spread mats and set up foldable chairs, enjoying light refreshments while watching the royal ceremony, which lasted two hours.
The atmosphere was lively, reminiscent of a carnival, as attendees flocked to booths around the square to satisfy their cravings during the event.
University lecturer Saidatul Nur Syuhadah Mohamed Sapadri, 33, expressed her excitement, saying that she had planned her return to her hometown specifically to witness this royal occasion.
"This is my first time experiencing a royal wedding on the big screen, and the crowd here shares in that excitement. It has been a memorable celebration for the people of Pahang," she remarked.
Siti Sarah Zainal Abidin, 36, also shared her joy, feeling fortunate to witness the wedding.
"The live broadcast on such a large screen allows everyone here to partake in the celebrations. Thank you for sharing these wonderful moments with us," she said.
Earlier today, the "akad nikah" (solemnisation ceremony) of Tengku Muhammad Iskandar and Tengku Natasya was broadcast live at the Kuantan City Council Square.
Tomorrow, the festivities will continue with the "istiadat berinai" and "persandingan diraja" ceremonies, which will be live-streamed for the public at the Kuantan City Council Field 1 and at Dataran Muzium Diraja in Pekan.
