KUALA LUMPUR: An opposition member of parliament revealed in the Dewan Rakyat today that he received information about several other bullying cases involving healthcare workers.
Kuala Langat MP Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, when debating the Supply Bill 2025, said he was informed of a bullying case involving a microbiologist at a hospital under the Health Ministry.
"The issue of bullying among public servants can create a tense work environment, distress emotions, and lead to stressful conditions, which may result in incidents of bullying among healthcare workers.
"Following the bullying issue I raised recently during Minister's Question Time, I received information about bullying alleged to have occurred at a hospital under the Health Ministry in Peninsular Malaysia.
"This case involves a microbiologist in the Pathology Department who had expressed suicidal thoughts and is receiving psychiatric treatment.
"I was informed that a police report was lodged regarding the incident, as well as reports to the Prime Minister's Office and the health minister as early as July last year.
"What actions have been taken, and how are these cases being managed? I hope the independent committee established to investigate bullying issues among healthcare workers will conduct a thorough investigation," he said.
On Oct 16, the Health Ministry said it would identify and investigate hospitals with reported cases of doctors getting bullied.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad had said a special task force would look into these cases, following the death of a pathologist at Lahad Datu Hospital and it would expand the investigation to other healthcare facilities.
Meanwhile, in his debate, Dr Yunus called for the emoluments and allowance scheme for the healthcare sector to be reviewed to curb the migration of local talent.
"Is the emoluments and allowance scheme for the healthcare sector being reviewed to address the migration of healthcare professionals, including the on-call allowance, which is said to have increased from RM55 to RM65? What are the details? Are these amounts per hour, per day, or something else?
"What efforts are being made to prevent the migration of healthcare workers out of Malaysia, including to the Middle East
"With the government's decision to increase the minimum wage from RM1,500 to RM1,700, I hope this can be taken into consideration," he said.
