IPOH: The investigation paper on the Chinese flag-waving incident in Teluk Intan last Thursday has been submitted to Bukit Aman today (Oct 29).
Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said they were awaiting further instructions on whether to proceed with the charges in court.
According to him, 16 Chinese nationals who raised the flags had cooperated well throughout the investigation.
"The eight men and eight women, aged between 40 and 61, admitted to waving China flags during a procession.
"A police review found that the organiser had on Sept 6 applied for permission to hold the procession, which was approved on Oct 2.
"However, the organiser was found to have violated the permit conditions by allowing foreigners to participate in the procession," he said at a press conference at the Perak police headquarters here today.
Azizi said police had received 61 reports regarding the procession.
"The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, as the organiser breached permit conditions, and Section 3(1) of the National Emblems (Control of Display) Act 1949 for displaying a foreign flag during the procession," he said.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad had said there was no harm in foreign tourists waving China flags during the International Guan Gong Cultural Festival.
Nevertheless, the Guan Gong Cultural Association apologised for the incident.
