JOHOR BARU: Police have launched an investigation into an incident involving a group of people waving the flag of a foreign country during an international cultural festival parade in Sentosa here recently, which was caught in a clip that went viral on social media.
Johor Baru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the parade was organised by an organisation in Sentosa and involved participants from more than 10 countries.
"The Johor Baru (South) district police headquarters received a report on the incident at 3pm yesterday.
"Acting on the police report, we have opened an investigation paper into the case.
"We will be calling the organisers and witnesses involved in the event to assist with the investigation," he said in a statement.
The case, he said, is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the National Emblems (Control of Display) Act 1949 for the display of national emblems in public, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for conducing public mischief with intent to cause fear or alarm the public and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 prohibits communications that are obscene, indecent, false, threatening or offensive with the intent to harm or harass others.
Raub also called on the public with any information on the incident to contact the Johor Baru (South) police's hotline at 07-2182323 or any nearby police station to assist with the police investigation.
