'This is what true friendship means,' says Najib, thanking supporters

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak expressed gratitude for the support he received yesterday when he appeared at the Kuala Lumpur High Court for the ruling on his 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) corruption charges.

In a Facebook post, Najib thanked supporters, saying their presence reflected that they "still remember and miss" his past contributions and policies.

"This is what true friendship really means. At this moment, what else is there to offer but appreciation and gratitude?" he wrote.

"May these friendships in this world be carried forward as a valuable asset in the hereafter."

Najib added that true friends are hard to find in challenging times.

"Many show up only when they seek something or when things are easy.

"Some are two-faced, but life itself is a lesson. Amid today's bitterness, there is a glimmer of sweetness and appreciation."

The 71-year-old former leader faces four charges of using his position to receive RM2.3 billion in bribes from 1MDB funds, along with 21 money laundering charges involving the same amount.

Yesterday, High Court judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah ruled that Najib, the former Umno president, was the ultimate decision-maker in 1MDB and ordered him to enter his defence for the 21 money laundering charges, saying the prosecution had proven a prima facie case.
